Work

Work with plants that need labeling done right

Stories plants recognize — wrong labels, micro-stops, audit fire drills, and upgrade weekends — and what a controlled print path looks like.

The fix pattern

Every fix follows the same four steps.

Ops · Quality

Wrong label on the line

A multi-SKU food packaging floor where the wrong finished-goods label (SKU, lot, or allergen pack) meant hold, scrap, and rework. The fix pattern: print from the work order, approved templates only, first-piece check, prove what printed.

Ops · CI

“Ask Mike which printer”

Discrete packaging with tribal printer routing — wrong device, media surprises, micro-stops that never make the shift log. The fix pattern: job → correct printer, multi-printer visibility, same path every shift.

Quality · IT

Prove what printed for the lot

Auditor asks for Lot X — template version, data, who, which printer — and the team digs drives and printer logs. The fix pattern: every print writes evidence; retrieve history in minutes, not meetings.

Corporate Quality · IT

Same SKU, five “approved” labels

Several plants, local template tweaks, customers seeing inconsistency. The fix pattern: one governed library, effective dating, locked floor UI, ERP/MES data stays canonical.

Ops · Quality

New OEM pack, hard ship date

Format pack lands with a deadline — scramble, email artwork to the floor, hope the dock scan works. The fix pattern: approve the pack, lock the print, first-article, then ship.

IT · Ops

Upgrade weekend, labels go dark

ERP/MES upgrade breaks embedded print logic; ops falls back to manual; IT spends weeks restoring labels. The fix pattern: ERP/MES = system of record; labeling layer = templates, routing, history.

These stories reflect patterns we see on packaging and manufacturing floors.
